Why Elafonisos?

We couldn’t imagine a more special place to celebrate our wedding than Elafonisos, a tiny island off the southern coast of Greece known for its turquoise waters, golden beaches, and laid-back charm. It’s often described as one of the hidden gems of Greece — beautiful yet untouched, with an authentic atmosphere that feels worlds away from the bustle of the mainland. Elafonisos is also deeply personal to us. The island is just a 15-minute drive from Georges's family village, a place full of history, tradition, and memories. We loved the idea of bringing our family and friends here — not only to share in the beauty of the island, but also to connect with the roots of Georges’s family. Between the stunning beaches (Simos and Panagia!), the charming harbor town, and the breathtaking sunsets, Elafonisos felt like the perfect blend of natural beauty and meaningful connection. We can’t wait for you to experience it with us.

Elafonisos Island

We met in October of 2021, while Alyssa was in PA school and George was in law school. From the very beginning, something just clicked—within the first week, George managed to take Alyssa on five dates in seven days! It didn’t take long for both of us to realize this was something truly special. Since then, life has been full of milestones and adventures. We’ve both graduated from grad school, moved into our first apartment together in New York City, and welcomed our sweet puppy into our little family. Our days off are often spent strolling through Central Park, exploring new restaurants, or chasing our pup around the dog park. In December of 2024, George made the next big step in our story. Knowing how much Alyssa’s family means to her, he not only asked her dad for permission, but also her three brothers—a gesture that meant the world to her. He planned the proposal during a walk at one of Alyssa’s favorite spots, where she had countless memories of walking her family’s dogs. With her pup Buc by her side, George got down on one knee. The night followed with a celebration with close family and friends, a special night full of memories. In August of 2025, George brought Alyssa to his family’s village in Greece for the first time—a place where he had spent every summer growing up. Just a 15-minute drive away is the beautiful island of Elafonisos, where turquoise waters and golden beaches create the backdrop of so many of George’s childhood memories. It was there, surrounded by the magic of the island, that we chose our wedding venue —a place that now holds meaning for both of us, and one we cannot wait to share with all of you. What started as a whirlwind week of dates has grown into a lifetime love story, and we can’t wait to celebrate the next chapter with you in Greece!

Our Story

Getting to Elafonisos Island

Most of you will be flying into Athens International Airport (ATH). From there, you’ll make your way to the island of Elafonisos, where Capari Suites is located. It’s a bit of a journey, but the scenic drive through the the Peneloponese region and the beautiful beaches waiting at the end make it well worth it! Option 1: Rent a Car (Most Convenient)Drive time: ~4 hours from Athens Airport to the <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/Προβλήτα+Πούντας/@36.520946,22.9768468,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x149e0d00159bde0d:0x633b456fa1e06fab!8m2!3d36.520946!4d22.9794217!16s%2Fg%2F11ycm9t5tm?entry=ttu&amp;g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDMyMy4xIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Port of Pounta</a> on the Peloponnese. From Pounta, take the short 10-minute ferry across to Elafonisos. Ferries run frequently all day (no need to book ahead). You are able to bring a car across or walk on as a foot passenger. Option 2: Organized TransportationIf you would prefer to not rent a car, we can help you arrange transportation to the island.

Tips for Elafonisos

Getting Around 🚗While taxis are available, we recommend renting a car to explore Greece and the island at your own pace. All of the beaches and activities are within a 5–15 minute drive from Capari Suites. 💳 Cash &amp; CardsMany restaurants and shops accept credit cards and Apple Pay, but some smaller tavernas and beach bars are cash-only. ATMs are available in Elafonisos town, so it’s a good idea to carry some euros with you. ☀️What to PackBring swimwear, sunscreen, a hat, and sandals — you’ll be spending plenty of time outdoors. A light sweater is handy for breezy evenings by the water. The island is very casual and laid back. 🐚Local RhythmLife on Elafonisos is wonderfully relaxed. Shops may close mid-afternoon for a few hours, and dinners often begin later in the evening. Embrace the island pace and enjoy it!

Relax at Simos BeachIf you have some free time during your stay, we highly recommend a trip to&nbsp;Simos Beach. Known for its crystal-clear turquoise waters, soft golden sand, and stunning natural beauty, it’s often considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. Swim, lounge, or simply soak in the breathtaking views.

On the Mainland

Just about 45 minutes north of Elafonisos on the mainland, Monemvasia is a breathtaking medieval fortress town carved into the side of a cliff, often called the “Gibraltar of the East.” Wander through its stone alleys, explore ancient Byzantine churches, and take in sweeping views of the Aegean Sea. There are plenty of cute hotels and restaurants mixed into the village, so stay a night, grab a meal with the beautiful view of the Aegean, and admire the authenticity of this greek village.
